A Life of Faith, Perseverance, and the Miraculous Power of Prayer
In the 19th century, a man named George Müller stood as a living testimony of unwavering faith and trust in God’s provision. A Christian evangelist and founder of the Ashley Down Orphanage in Bristol, England, Müller cared for thousands of orphans, yet he never once asked for financial support from people. Instead, he relied solely on prayer and God’s divine provision. His life was a remarkable example of what it means to truly live by faith.
The Morning Without Breakfast – A Miraculous Provision
One of the most famous stories from George Müller's ministry occurred one morning when the orphanage had completely run out of food. There was nothing to feed the hundreds of children under his care. Yet, instead of despairing, Müller gathered the children together in the dining hall and instructed them to sit at the tables as they normally would for breakfast.
With empty plates before them and no food in sight, Müller lifted his hands and prayed a prayer of thanksgiving:
“Father, we thank You for the food You are going to give us.”
The children, though hungry, bowed their heads in faith, knowing that their caretaker trusted in God's provision.
Moments after Müller finished praying, there was a knock at the door. It was the town’s baker, who stood at the doorstep with a large batch of fresh bread. He explained that he had been unable to sleep the night before, feeling strongly led by God to bake extra bread for the orphanage.
Just as the baker was leaving, another unexpected visitor arrived. This time, it was the local milkman, whose cart had unexpectedly broken down right outside the orphanage. The milkman, unable to fix the wheel before the milk spoiled, offered all the milk to the orphans for free.
That morning, every child had more than enough to eat—bread and fresh milk—all without a single request for food from anyone but God.
Faith That Moves Mountains
This incredible story is just one of the many instances where Müller saw God's miraculous provision through prayer. He cared for over 10,000 orphans in his lifetime, built five large orphan houses, and distributed millions of Bibles and tracts, all without ever soliciting donations or seeking financial help from men.

His life embodied Matthew 6:31-33, where Jesus said:
“So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ … But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
Müller lived out this verse, trusting in God’s provision and refusing to let circumstances shake his faith.
Miracles Still Happen Today
The story of George Müller is not just a historical account, but a powerful reminder for believers today. God is still faithful, and He still answers prayers. If we trust Him completely, just as Müller did, we too can experience the miraculous provision of God in our lives.
Many times, we allow fear and doubt to cloud our faith. But God’s Word reassures us in Philippians 4:19:
“And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”
Just as God provided for Müller and the orphans, He can and will provide for you. The key is faith, perseverance, and unwavering trust in His promises.

No matter what challenges you are facing today—financial struggles, health battles, or unanswered prayers—remember that God hears and responds in His perfect timing. If you feel like you're at the end of your resources, trust in God, pray with faith, and watch Him move in miraculous ways.
George Müller’s life teaches us that faith is not about seeing—it is about believing. He never asked people for money, yet God supplied every need. He never worried about tomorrow, yet God always provided.
Today, as believers, we must learn to walk by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). Miracles still happen, and God is still in control. Trust in Him, pray without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17), and believe that He who provided for Müller and the orphans is the same God who will provide for you. God is faithful. He will never fail!
